Numerous dancers (both social and competition dancers) gave up a Friday evening
to do some community service.
DANCING
WITH THE LIONS COMMUNITY FUNCTION
LIONS CLUB OF THE CITY OF TOWNSVILLE (HOST) INC., will be hosting a ballroom dancing display Friday
night, 5th May from 6pm coinciding with the recommencement of the
Strand Night Markets. [unfortunately this was postponed until the 2nd
of June due to the rain] Connections World of Dance will be providing demonstration
ballroom dances in Latin, New Vogue and Modern styles. “We will also invite the public to learn
and participate in a few dances” said Connections World of Dance Principal, Antionette Roberts. This night will be used for promotion of community
involvement through organisations such as LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL, as well
as fundraising for the members of the Connections Dancesport
Team to travel to future competitions.
“Lions are no longer just older gentleman who service
parks”, states Barb McLeod, the President of the Townsville (Host) Lions
Club. “There are so many
misconceptions out there as to who and what the Lions are. We are simply everyday people who want to
help the community.” The Lions club of the City of LIONS – We Entertain, We Serve. |

Lucky Ann had her set in
her car. 15 minutes later and we were

How frustrating would it be, to not
be able to communicate because your body will not let you? What if your child
came home from school every day and they couldn’t tell you what they did at
school? – This is in the process of changing. A special school for students 6-18
years (Formerly Mundingburra Special School), TCLC does a sensational job,
teaching students with moderate and severe disabilities. The lions invited TCLC along to a recent
dinner meeting, where we asked for a ‘wish list’ of what they wish they had,
but weren’t given funding to attain.
The image above shows some items
that will be purchased with the $2000 cheque that will be donated to TCLC
tonight. The equipment includes technology
for basic communication as well as play, and books with large pictures to
help students learn to recognise words.
If you are able to help, please
donate to the school. They are
currently also trying to raise $100,000 for the maintenance and replacement
of the school’s two buses. One of which seats up to 6 wheelchairs with
wheelchair access. For more information contact TCLC
4759 4111 or the Lions. |

The dance studio was not expecting anything; however we donated
$300 to help the competition dancers who are constantly fundraising to get to
competitions along the entire eastern seaboard.
